On May 31, 2024, the Central Bank of Nigeria ("CBN") issued the Risk-Based Cybersecurity Framework and Guidelines for Deposit Money Banks and Payment Service Banks (the "Framework").
The Framework was issued to guide the implementation of cybersecurity programmes by supervised financial institutions (“SFIs”) to enhance resilience in the financial sector. In this article, we compare the provisions of the Framework to the previous cybersecurity regime applicable to SFIs and provide an overview of the Framework.
